Vienna University of Economics and Business
Research, development, teaching

Part time
published till: 26.07.2023

You want to understand how things are connected and make a fundamental impact? We offer an environment where you can realize your full potential. At one of Europe’s largest and most modern business and economics universities. On a campus where quality of work is also quality of life. We are looking for support at the

Institute for International Marketing Management (Prof. Lüdicke)
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting October 01, 2023, and ending after 6 years

The IMM team educates, advises, and creates knowledge for responsible global marketing leaders. Together with these leaders it contributes to creating a long-term, sustainable, and equitable global society. The team’s research focuses on effective marketing and brand strategies as well as key consumer behavior and consumer culture issues that need to be resolved. Recent IMM studies address topics such as sustainable consumption, trust in the sharing economy, violence in online communities, fragmentation of stigmatized consumer groups, AI measures of consumer sentiments, and identity and consumer behavior.

We are seeking a talented and motivated new team member in the position of Teaching and Research Assistant who shares this passion for positive change and will work with us toward the above goal, starting October 2023.

What to expect

PhD Studies and Research:

The new team member will be expected to join WU’s PhD program of the WU and pursue a PhD in marketing.
The new team member will dedicate about 10 hours of their working time to PhD studies and research. This part includes, for example,
empirical research in the new team member’s subject area,
publication work with faculty members, or independently,
presentation of research at international conferences, and
interaction with international academics, practitioners, and (most importantly) fellow PhD students from around the world.

Administration and Teaching Support:

The new team member will dedicate about 20 hours of their working time to administrative and teaching tasks in support of the IMM team.
This will primarily involve contributions to the ongoing management of the institute, as well as two semester hours of independent teaching in a subject area that suits the new members’ interest and profile (starting in Spring 2024).

Team and career:

The new team member will join a dynamic, friendly, and highly energetic group of academics who seek to contribute meaningfully to society through their research and education.
The new member will benefit from being mentored by internationally recognized experts in their field who publish at the highest academic levels and enjoy discussing research ideas, theories, data, and interpretations with new, upcoming talents.
A PhD from the IMM (and WU) comes with outstanding career opportunities, as the team is embedded in a world-wide network of leading academics, alumni, entrepreneurs, and marketing practitioners.

What you have to offer

A master’s degree in business and management (alternatively in a related field, e.g., sociology, anthropology, or psychology) that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
Highly motivated, internationally-oriented, team player with excellent communications skills.
Prior exposure to international, global, or cross-cultural topics in work or study environments is a plus.
A keen interest in “consumer culture theory” (short: CCT) and addressing pressing societally issues related to sustainability, inequality, migration, technological transformation, among others.
Proficiency in empirical social science methodology, with a focus on qualitative research methods (interviews, observations, ethnography, netnography, etc.).
Fluency in English language.
German language skills are not a prerequisite, but we expect new team members to be willing to learn the language over time.
Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.

What we offer you

Inspiring campus life with over 2,400 employees in research, teaching, and administration and approximately 21,500 students
A modern campus with spectacular architecture in the heart of Vienna
Excellent accessibility by public transportation
Meaningful work in an open-minded, inclusive, and family-friendly environment
