Your Role and Responsibilities
The Instana Java Agent team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work from our German office location in Böblingen. Instana collects data from monitored systems using a single agent on each host. The agent provides the framework and runtime environment for over a hundred different sensors that collect and aggregate data from the various processes on a host in almost real time and with little overhead on a number of different platforms. In addition, Instana provides specialized agents to collect metrics from serverless environments such as AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions and Azure Functions.

As a member of the Agent team you responsibilities will include:

plan, maintain and execute a feature roadmap together with the Product Manager for this
team

develop, maintain and further improve the API other sensors use to interact with the agent
maintain and further improve the agent's performance on various resource constrained
platforms

maintain and further improve support for serverless environments
pair programming with peers and reviewing code changes
handling issues reported by our customers

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

5+ years of professional experience programming Java
Good code writing discipline and an eye for code efficiency
Strong analytical and problem solving thinking
Understanding of agile methodologies e.g. Kanban
Fluent in written and spoken English
Permission to work in the EU
Relevant experience or educational background in Software Engineering required

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

Solid experience with the OSGi framework
Knowledge of Kubernetes and associated container and orchestration technologies
Knowledge of serverless platforms like AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions and Azure Functions
Experience with BASH or other system shells is desired
Knowledge about distributed tracing and APM
Good understanding of Linux internals
