The Institute of Interdisciplinary Mountain Research (IGF) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading
non-university research and science institution, engages in basic and applied research on impacts of global change
processes in mountain regions across the globe. The working groups at IGF provide a broad spectrum of expertise on a
wide range of topics, and together create a stimulating atmosphere for interdisciplinary mountain research. The institute
subdivision GLORIA is now offering a position of an
IT EXPERT (F/M/X) for the GLORIA coordination
(part-time/20 hours per week)
located in Vienna, for one year with the option of indefinite extension, with the planned commencement of work as soon
as possible.
The long-term monitoring and research programme GLORIA (Global Observation Research in Alpine Environments)
deals with climate change impacts on vegetation and biodiversity of high mountain areas on an international scale. The
Austrian GLORIA team is the global coordinator of the network and coordinates the partner groups around the world and
the acquisition of monitoring data sets. One of the primary tasks of the GLORIA coordination is to ensure data quality,
comparability and the compilation of consistent datasets, which is required for cross-regional analyses. This is realised by
the central GLORIA database, its corresponding interfaces and online input tools, which are used by all partner groups.
During the past years, the GLORIA database was transferred to an online web application, serving data entry, compilation,
evaluation and management.
The advertised GLORIA IT position comprises the maintenance, supervision and further development of the GLORIA
databases and programmes, communication with partner groups on data input, data exchange and the occasional
participation in GLORIA meetings and, optionally, field campaigns.
Your tasks:
Maintenance and further development of the central GLORIA database (MARIA-DB)
Programming in Javascript, SQL, PHP (LARAVEL framework)
Continuous support and further development of the GLORIA website (https://gloria.ac.at) with links to the
GLORIA database
IT support, systems administration in Windows, server installation and IT administration
Your profile:
Excellent computer skills: Javascript, PHP (Laravel); MS ACCESS skills are an asset
Database programming (SQL)
Web design
MSc or similar in biology/ecology is an asset
Ability to work in teams
The IGF offers an interdisciplinary and stimulating and dynamic research environment in Innsbruck and Vienna. The
working environment of this position includes a flexible time arrangement, place of work in the GLORIA office, located in
Vienna and the possibility to work in the extensive international team of the unique network GLORIA.
The annual gross salary of this position is € 25.014,85, according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of
Sciences (OeAW).
