The Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (IHB), research unit “Digital Historiography and Editions,” of
the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is
offering a position as
TECHNICIAN (F/M/X) for Digital Humanities (full-time, 40h per week)
The position is based in the Digital Historiography and Editions research area, which is working on several
major edition projects and prosopographical databases. The field of work combines data preparation and
processing with their public presentation as well as their historical-didactic development. You are invited to
view the Institute's current projects.
Your tasks:
Collaboration in the implementation and further development of digital editions (creation of usage
scenarios, data preparation, front-end development)
Development of open educational resources in the field of digital history in collaboration with project
specialists
Support in the training and further education of staff in digital editing techniques and
prosopographical databases
Support in the administration of the research unit
Your profile:
Completed relevant university degree, preferably in history/digital humanities/computer science
Affinity for and experience with humanities issues
Proven experience in the field of digital source editions with TEI/XML and web technologies (HTML,
CSS, JavaScript)
In-depth knowledge of a programming language, preferably Python
German language skills at native speaker level
Flexibility, strong communication skills, creativity, ability to work in a team, independence and
passion for Open Science/Open Data
Desirable additional qualifications:
Didactic training and experience
Knowledge of XML technologies (XPath/XSL-T/XQuery) and/or semantic web technologies
Experience with current HTR technologies
Experience with current versioning, development and deployment tools (Git, Docker, GitHub
Actions)
We offer an annual gross salary of € 41.171,62 according to the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of
Sciences.
