The GMI is part of the Vienna BioCenter, one of Europes leading life-sciences research locations, with over 1,700 researchers from at least 70 countries, organized into a broad spectrum of research institutes, universities, and companies. The BioOptics Core Facility of the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI), Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA), and Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) is seeking a highly motivated Microscopy Specialist (m/f/d)full-time, in 3rd district ViennaThe operation of the BioOptics Core Facility is based on a cooperation of Boehringer Ingelheim and the Austrian Academy of Sciences and provides services to 36 research groups and 450 scientists from over 40 countries. The facility provides the researchers at the IMP/IMBA/GMI with service in flow cytometry, microscopy and image analysis. It is equipped with state-of-the-art light microscopes, imaging software as well as flow cytometers - see http://cores.imp.ac.at/biooptics/ for details. Key responsibilities Manage and assist instruments maintenance Provide training and guidance to non-expert users Support acquisition & downstream data analysis using Matlab, Phyton, Java, etc. Support and development of advanced microscopy-based workflows & data handling (FLIM, FRAP, TIRF, multiphoton, Spinning Disk, Light-Sheet, Super Resolution) Assist, conduct and develop teaching activities Key requirements Strong background in Biophysics or any related field Thorough knowledge and understanding of advanced microscopy technologies Expertise and practical experience using advanced light microscopes e.g., FLIM, single molecule Deep interest in automation, image processing and data management Passion for tech development Self-organized, structured, and reliable working style within a team Excellent command of English (spoken and written) is required; German skills are an asset Enthusiastic, friendly, collaborative mindset and the ability to interact professionally with our users Our offer The institutes, embedded in the Vienna Biocenter (VBC), are offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic international environment with excellent benefits including child support center, subsidized cafeteria, and training courses. The yearly gross salary starts from 50.000, - depending on qualification and experience. The position is open from January 2023 and is initially limited to one year with a strong intention to prolong.
