R&D Senior Engineer – SW Tooling development for Traction Applications (80-100%)
With our Traction Competence Center, we have a leading position in the development, manufacturing and sales of traction and auxiliary converters for rail vehicles. The converters vary in power from a few kW to several MW and are used worldwide in locomotives, multiple units, trams, and other rail vehicles as well as eMobility applications. Our Control SW Development department creates electronic control systems for our converter families based on the most modern and reliable control technology. For our motivated Base SW Services Team we are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced engineer with focus on informatics that also provides great interest in topics such as railway, SW development, control SW and/or power electronics.
This position reports to
Engineering Manager
Your responsibilities
Specification and design of development environments and diagnostic tools for enabling the converter SW development, operation, and diagnostic
Close interdisciplinary cooperation with the control application SW teams in the definition and integration of required functions
Verification of developed SW products according to standards and improvement of the underlying workflows
Support of SW engineers in using developed SW products
Trainings for ABB employees and customers
Your background
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Informatics, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with focus on SW development
Good knowledge of C# / Python / C++
Familiar with modern development tools (Visual Studio, MATLAB/Simulink or similar)
Expertise and experience in development of server- or client-based GUIs and backend functionality for signal processing
Enthusiasm for developing own ideas as well as analyzing existing SW designs in order to propose and implement improvements
Creativity and quick comprehension as well as independent, structured and proactive way of working
Knowledge of railway or automotive industry is appreciated
Good knowledge of German and English
