Based in Belval, Thales Alenia Space in Luxembourg develops state-of-the-art digital space solutions, using big data, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity technologies to address complex end-to-end systems’ challenges.

Data Engineer
What we can do together
As Data Engineer for a cross-domain software project involving Earth Observation and digital modelling, you will work with a team of experts to design and implement scalable, data-centric architectures with state-of-the-art technology. You will be a key member of an Agile development squad working with diverse datasets – from satellite imagery to social media – high performance computing, and real-world use cases.
Your responsibilities will include:
Creating and maintaining data pipelines to manage large, complex datasets
Designing, implementing, and automating processes to ingest, wrangle, and deliver data at scale
Contributing to the architecture and leading the instantiation of data stores including databases, data lakes, or file systems according to the business need
Creating APIs with secure endpoints to enable data consumption across systems and teams
Keeping our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data stores, centers, and cloud regions
Continually learning and sharing best practices across teams to benefit the entire organization
About you
We are looking for a candidate with previous experience in data engineering or a closely related role. Specifically, you should have:
At least 2 years of hands-on data and/or software engineering experience
An Engineering or Master’s degree in a technical field
SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases
Strong programming skills in a language like Python, Java, or Scala
Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, and datasets
Experience with Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms
Strong verbal and written proficiency in English

For more experienced candidates, additional skills and experience matching any of the following points would be highly valued:
Mastery of big data frameworks such as Spark, Kafka, or Hadoop
Deep knowledge around different flavours of SQL and NoSQL databases, and when to use them
Complementary skills in Machine Learning / AI, software architecture, or High Performance Computing (HPC)
Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools (Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow), or stream-processing systems (Storm, Spark-Streaming)
