Barnardo's is looking for an exceptional Media Officer to join its National Media Team.

Would you like to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children? Are you ready to use your proven experience to help Barnardo's amplify and tell their stories?

Barnardo's works to protect, support and nurture vulnerable children across the UK. Every year, we help thousands of children, young people, and families to build a better future.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a creative and experienced PR professional to join our National Media Team for a 2-year fixed term contract. This Media Officer role will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality proactive and reactive communications activity which promotes a new, two-year national corporate partnership for Barnardo's.

Reporting to and working with the National Media Manager, this role is responsible for:

Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key external stakeholders, partners, and journalists.
Developing and delivering a media plan which targets and successfully engages key audiences, and helps to deliver the objectives of the partnership.
Regular reporting on the progress and impact of media activity for internal and external stakeholders.
Contributing to the promotion of Barnardo's work and its profile as an expert voice on children's issues.
Alongside colleagues, managing sensitive issues with reputational implications.
Acting as a first responder to journalist enquiries, and working with colleagues across the charity to react quickly, accurately and professionally.

You will have experience in:

Developing national media plans which successfully met their objectives.
Engaging with the UK national media and proven success in achieving positive coverage across news and consumer outlets.
Working in a high-profile in-house media team, press office or public relations agency.
Using people's lived experiences to create compelling content.
Managing stakeholder relationships.

We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo's values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.

For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which should be in place by 1st April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a key pillar of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to grow and develop in their career at Barnardo's.
WORKPLACE OFFER: WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU
The world of work has changed. We are understanding of what works best for our colleagues both current and future as we look to embrace this new way of working. Our hybrid working initiative is based on trust, flexibility and empowerment. We understand our workplace offer means different things to different people, and we encourage those conversations. This may mean working at one of our stores, services, working at home, at one of our Collaboration Hubs or any combination of these.
