Álláshirdetés szövege

About the role

At Cropster, we are building market-leading Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions to empower businesses throughout the coffee supply chain. Thousands of customers all over the world from farm to cup use our software products to make better coffee.

As an Integration Engineer, you will develop industry-grade software which is used in more than 100+ countries around the world in coffee roasteries. You will be part of a development team that works on our standalone desktop application called Roasting Intelligence (RI). The RI application connects many different roasting machine types from different vendors with our cloud application. It visualizes roasting parameters in real-time, incorporates machine learning algorithms for smarter roasting, and our customers can annotate roast metadata during and after the roasting process.

Early career developers and remote work
We know that the first step out of school and college into the work force can be difficult. We encourage developers just entering the world of software development to apply for this role as well if you can work physically in Innsbruck. While our software development team works from all over the European Union, we believe we can only give you the support you need as a fresh developer, when you can get help from experienced peers hands on. For this reason we cannot provide this role to entry level positions. As a junior developer, please only apply if you can work from Innsbruck.

If you already had a chance to gather experience as a professional software developer, we are also happy to onboard you either in our Innsbruck office, the Vienna office or anywhere in the EU.

What you'll do

You will write hardware integrations for coffee roasting machines and test suits in the Java programming language. Together with the RI Team, you will companion machine integrations from analysis, implementation, testing, and customer beta testing to the production release to a global customer base.
We are continuously expanding the list of supported roasting machines. You will be part of the team which integrates new vendors and new roast machine models into the Roasting Intelligence software.
You will proactively participate in adding new features which empower our users to monitor and control coffee roasting machines - your work has a real impact on a large user base and improves the roasting processes every day! As part of your job, you will collaborate directly with product managers, designers, data scientists and developers in a small, cross-functional and agile team.
We strive to write high-quality, clean, scalable, and reusable code by applying industry best practices around software engineering. In our engineering teams we love learning from each other. We embrace Git and Pull Requests in our daily work and we write tests for critical parts of our software.
You will help us enhancing our internal knowledge base, e.g. by exchanging with hardware vendors, researching how to connect to different machines, collecting essential settings, and implementing new hardware integrations into our platform.
We help our customers should there be a problem. As part of a cross-functional team of support engineers and developers, you will be involved in tackling customer issues. Together we can solve every problem: from loose cables to shaky SSL handshakes.

Our technology stack

The backend is written in Java 11+ and built with Maven and Gradle
We use CI/CD pipelines to test, build and ship our software
We use JavaFX for the visualization
The RI communicates via REST endpoints with our cloud-based backend (Java Spring).

We are looking for someone with

2+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design.
Professional experience in developing in Java or other JVM based languages.
Basic knowledge of computer networks and network protocols.
Curiosity for hardware and hardware-near programming. Bits, bytes, words and registers are no stranger to you.
Knowledge of Git in collaborative settings. You know what a Pull Request is and rebasing a branch does not make you lose your HEAD ;-)
Working understanding of software test automation and practical knowledge of writing unit and integration tests.
A passion for solving real-world problems and writing reusable code that lasts for years, not months.
Ability to discuss with your team colleagues from product management, design, and development.
A strong command of written and spoken English.

That said, we’d be particularly delighted to hire someone with

A degree in Computer Science or a proven track record in developing non-trivial applications is a strong plus.
Experience with JavaFX or other UI frameworks.
Experience with JNI or JNA.
Debugging capabilities.
Interest in hardware electronics.
Practical knowledge of agile methodologies and code reviews.
